Coaching Is Not Just For Sports

Category: CoachingBart Icles @ 10:04 pm

Some people might say that the parent-child relationship is somewhat similar to the connection between bosses and subordinates. Of course, the two will never reach the same levels, but the idea of how a boss can hugely impact the development of his or her subordinates is a bit like a parent\’s and a child\’s. The way that parents and bosses are supposed to be the guiding light in the lives of their kids and subordinates, as well as a source of life lessons, is very much alike. Everybody wants more in life than just going through the motions; they want to experience the joys, the pains and the triumphs as well, and they look to their guides to show them those things. Parents and bosses have huge responsibilities to their kids and employees since they play such an important role in their lives.

As appealing as it is to focus on both, though, I will only be looking at the importance of coaching in the workplace.

Leaders are appointed with the belief that they can harness something positive out of a group of people that nobody else can. In professional sports, we see this all the time. A team hires a coach they believe fits the personalities of the players and eventually earns the players\’ respect. Team owners know that they have to hire the perfect leader for their squad, otherwise all the potential that their team has will never come to fruition. Things are no different for corporations, where choosing the right manager with right coaching skills to coach the right people must all be considered. People need the right coach to motivate them; to give them a satisfying reason for doing their jobs.

However, there are also instances when great coaching could come from an external source. A few companies sometimes that decide that, from time to time, having a new voice to speak to their employees is not such a bad concept. Some companies may hold a coaching workshop in order to give fresh insights and lessons to its members. It is hard to argue with its effectiveness, given that a coaching workshop usually has an expert talking directly to employees. By having an individual focus on areas that might not be covered by other executives, the employees\’ range of thinking is broadened. They might see now some things that they could not see before.

In the end, work might be work, but employees crave more than that. Employees want to somehow feel that work is a family matter, even in a limited capacity. They want to be motivated not just through compensation, but also through simple admiration for their leaders.

Think Like an Entrepreneur!

Category: CoachingSteven Schlagel @ 5:36 am

When coaching and consulting with many of my small business clients, we tend to focus on starting, buying or running a business. This can include hiring staff, working on better processes, developing a marketing plan and increasing cash flow. Often, though, they neglect important aspects of building success.

Entrepreneurs and small business owners tend to think differently. Small business owners often start their companies after having been employees in that industry. They frequently maintain that employee mindset. Entrepreneurs dream big, start several businesses from scratch, plan for the future sale of business and are always looking for the next opportunity.

Small business owners often get married to their work and do not make a workable plan for managing and growing their business. If a rough spot in the economy hits, they get scared and go into a survival mindset. Entrepreneurs, on the other hand, usually have multiple projects going and are more likely to see an economic slow down as an opportunity.

Small business owners can change their mindset to model the entrepreneur’s. Creating a vision of what you want your entire life to look like, and how your business supports that, is a key step. Really generate the details of this future life and then write down that detailed picture. Ask yourself questions as you go. What does your day look like? What income are you generating? Do you want more time versus more money? How would you spend that time. Don’t try to figure out the details. Just write down the dream.

When doing this, many people know, in their gut, what they want but their head gets in the way with practical thoughts. For this exercise, DON’T BE PRACTICAL AND DON’T BE AFRAID. Do you want your one lone bricks and mortar store to be the biggest selling franchise in the world? Write it down and don’t put an end date on when you want to achieve this. Be as impractical as possible. Do you want your business to run itself while you go deep-sea fishing for months out of the year? Write it down. For some business owners, just writing it down where they can see it is a big shift.

When you’ve written a detailed vision of what you want work and life to look like, it is important to feel it. If part of your dream involves a new car, what does the steering wheel feel like in your hands? How does that book you wrote look and feel? Professional athletes do visualization all the time. Tiger visualizes his perfect putt hundreds of times before he actually makes it. They work with coaches to help them with this process. Why shouldn’t this work for you?

What’s your big vision, the one you hesitate to share with anyone? Are you married to your small business, afraid of economic change? Start changing your survive mentality NOW. Think like an entrepreneur: BIG.

Using Learning Modalities in Coaching

Category: CoachingBart Icles @ 1:43 pm

As more and more companies are giving more attention to coaching as a learning and development tool to help improve the performance of employees, more and more managers are learning more about different and effective ways of giving their employees the kind of coaching that they need. One way to effectively deliver the reinforcement and motivation needed by employees is through learning more about their representational systems and how these modalities affect their aptitude to pickup what instructions and messages are being given to them. These four representational systems are auditory, auditory digital, kinesthetic, and visual.

In the workplace, visual and auditory modalities of learning are often more dominant and this is primarily the reason behind instructional materials being designed to either catch the cognitive attention of employees or their sense of hearing. There are ways to tell whether employees are more of the visual or the auditory type. Being able to determine whether they react to what they see or here is important in effectively delivering continuing education to them.

People who react more to what they see (or what we call the visual type) tend to be neat and well-groomed. They tend to observe erect posture – including slightly holding their head up high. They are also normally thin who breathe in a shallow manner or from the top of their lungs. They can also be very organized and they can memorize or remember things based on what they see.

They are not easily distracted by noise but they often have difficulty remembering verbal instructions. They usually give importance to appearance and they tend to give focus on how things look. When coaching with this type of persons, try to paint a verbal picture or make use of pictures and/or videos. This can help them identify their feelings, desires, goals, and needs with what is being taught or instructed to them.

On the other hand, auditory people tend to talk to themselves and they are usually easily distracted by noise. They learn best by listening and they can repeat things back to their coaches. They have a penchant for music and/or talking on the phone. They either talk to themselves or move their lips when they are deep in thought. They memorize and learn things in a sequential manner, and they do not have mind maps. They prefer that managers or supervisors talk to them when they are being given instructions. This type of people would appreciate learning through audio recordings or tele-courses. When coaching auditory people, see to it that there are no distracting noises in the room.

Life Coaching How It Accelerates Your Life

Category: CoachingWimnor Strauss @ 8:51 am

While deciding to become a life coach perhaps one of the challenges at first is deciding which life coaching courses provides the most effective training. Will it provide the necessary coaching and business skills to succeed in the business.

What is it about life coaching that attracts you? Take some time to evaluate the reasons you have decided to embark on that quest. Have a clear intention of that why and how it manifests In your life. What previous experience do you have that could compliment your coaching training.

If there is a genuine desire to take others to greatness or is it for personal gratification of helping others. One of the best things of life coach training is that you will explore many parts of yourself that you might not have looked at in the past and provide an insight of yourself beneath the surface.

While many clients will approach a coach in order to resolve a business related, relationship, executive coaching or others type of coaching, at the end of the day what they are really saying is that they are looking to resolve an internal conflict that is obstructing them from achieving their end results.

When considering your own personal branding special attention should be given to choosing a coaching niche. While the amount of diverse coaches is extensive, when it comes down to working on the client challenges to overcome it all narrows down to personal life coaching.

One of the most rewarding outcomes when it comes to developing skills as a life coach, is that you will explore and learn ideas, tools and resources to improve the quality of your own And you will be empowered to transcend that in the life of others.

If the coaching course you are considering attending does not offer an extensive business or communities of practice, consider looking else where. These are indispensable parts of a life coaching course.

Being part of an international community provides an avenue to explore first hand how each culture responds to the same situation. Not just in the view of traditions but also in respect to religious beliefs, family upbringing and experiences. Life coaching only focus is to discover, plan and create a road map of achievement. That makes it a very rewarding career not just for financial gain, but to yourself and those who surround you.

While a life coach certification is not required wimnor Strauss discusses its important for becoming a life coach.

Should You Invest In Coaching?

Category: CoachingLindsay Barnes @ 6:48 pm

As you make your way through your professional life, you will constantly need some reinvention. Your personality undergoes some adjustment as you climb up (or go down) the rungs of power. You learn new skills and meet new people. You develop a greater understanding and knowledge of whatever field or industry you are in, as well as cultivate abilities that will help you survive in the corporate world.

Being an employee or a business person, you also invest in different things that can help you advance. You could spend time, money, and effort learning new things through seminars or workshops, and you might even be spending money on outfits that will enhance your image as a power player in your company. The working world really does require you to throw everything you have in your career or business.

Some people who are really serious about their professional success opt to invest their time and money in getting a coach. You might initially balk at the idea, but before you dismiss it, think about this first. Have you ever felt dissatisfied with your career’s direction? Are you honestly happy where you are? Is what you’re doing exactly what you envisioned yourself doing years ago? Do you sometimes feel the need to just throw in the towel and retreat from the rat race? If you have any doubts at all about where your career has taken you, then you should seriously consider getting a coach. A coach will set you firmly on your path towards your goals, give you objective advice on your decisions, and even help you develop some key skills and abilities that can help you get ahead.

Another thing that might have you thinking twice about coaching is the price. That is a perfectly reasonable worry; many people also shy away from coaching because they are not sure that they will able to afford the coach’s service. For the most part, you can expect to invest anywhere from $200 to $500 on a coach, although there are also coaches who will agree to an adjusted rate for people who are a little strapped for cash–perfect for the person who needs guidance after getting laid off from work.

It sounds like a frightening prospect to invest quite a lot of money for coaching, particularly in these difficult times. You might think that the money can go towards bills instead. But remember that investments are always risky, and in the case of investing in coaching, it is entirely up to you if your investment will yield great dividends–and it will, as long as you choose a good coach and pay attention to advice.
