The CompTIA A+ course comprises of 4 specialised sectors – you’ll have to qualify in 2 different areas to be competent in A+. The world of information technology is one of the most exciting and ground-breaking industries you could be involved with. Universities are brimming over with students who took a course because it seemed fun – in place of something that could gain them the job they want. Take time to understand what your attitude is towards career progression and earning potential, plus your level of ambition. You should understand what the role will demand of you, which particular exams are needed and how you’ll gain real-world experience. Have a conversation with an industry professional who has a background in the industry you’re considering, and could provide a detailed description of what you’re going to be doing in that job. Researching these areas well before commencement of any study course makes a lot of sense, doesn’t it?

Student support is absolutely essential – find a program providing 24×7 full access, as anything less will frustrate you and could put a damper on the speed you move through things. Many only provide email support (too slow), and phone support is usually just a call-centre that will just take down the issue and email it over to their technical team – who will call back over the next day or so (assuming you’re there), when it suits them. This is all next to useless if you’re sitting there confused over an issue and only have certain times available in which to do your studies.

If you look properly, you’ll find professional companies that offer online support 24×7 – even in the middle of the night. Don’t compromise when you’re looking for the right support service. Most would-be IT professionals that fall by the wayside, just need the right support system.

Often, students don’t think to check on a painfully important area – how their company segments the courseware elements, and into what particular chunks. Individual deliveries for each training module piece by piece, as you pass each exam is how things will normally arrive. This sounds sensible, but you should consider these factors: What if you find the order pushed by the company’s salespeople doesn’t suit all of us. And what if you don’t finish all the sections inside of their particular timetable?

To be straight, the perfect answer is to have a copy of their prescribed order of study, but get everything up-front. You’re then in possession of everything in the event you don’t complete everything within their ideal time-table.
