First thing first, you need to select the fabric you intend to use. You will also have to take some measurements i.e. you will have to measure the length and the width. You need to know the size of the bed you will be using it on. For example, is it a queen, king, twin or single bed?

Now here is what I suggest you do. Make sure that you pick a washable fabric that could also double as a home decorator. I suggest you go for a lightweight fabric that will feel comfortable. Of course you need to take the weather and climatic conditions of your area into consideration.

Now you need to choose two lengths of fabric that should be about 54 inches wide. It is always good to make it slightly wider. You will be using these for the front part. Be sure that the panels are the same size as the measurements of the length as mentioned earlier.

- Find home decorator fabrics. These should be about 54 inches wide that is able to cover a duvet cover to 104 inches wide. Chances are your duvet is wider. if you do have a wider duvet you can just purchase another panel of material.

- Now you must think about patterns and prints that you like. You may need to do some variations based on the prints to use. For example, you may have to make your panels longer.

- The next step is to pre-wash and then iron the material.

- Now simply fold the front panel in half lengthwise.

- You may need to use an iron to make some sharp creases at the folds. It will then be easy to continue once you\’ve done that.

- you will have to do this to the panels at the back too.

- Now you need to draw a line that goes down the length of the crease on the panel. You will need a fabric marking pen and a yard stick for this task.

- Cut out each line to make six panels. That is, 3 shall be used for the back and then 3 for the front of the duvet cover.

- Now the next step on how to make duvet covers is to simply pin one panel that\’s tapered to one part of the visible side or front rather that is still uncut. Make sure that is it is pinned such that all fabric edges are lined up & make sure that the sides are also lined up quite as well.

What I have just said will take you miles ahead in your duvet cover making. The missing parts in this article are left out because the rest of the work from here on can be customized to suite your own individual taste.
